Paul Antonio grew up in Trinidad, West Indies and came to England in 1998. He was offered a fully funded place on the Letterforms History Course, at the Dept of Typography and Graphic Communications, University of Reading. Awarded the Commonwealth Foundation ' s Arts and Crafts Award in 1999 allowing him to study on the Calligraphy, Gilding and Heraldic Art Course at Reigate School of Art and Design, Surrey. Upon graduating with the only Distinction in his year he was awarded the Achievement for Calligraphy in 2000 by the Worshipful Company of Scriveners.Paul's studies then took him to a year of English Palaeography 600-1600, Archaeological Illustration and Arabic Calligraphy.He has done work presented to HRH Prince Philip. Lectured at the British Museum. Demonstrated Calligraphy and Heraldry at the V&A Museum, The Courtauld Institute and the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House. Lecture/demonstrations for The University of the West Indies, Trinidad: Kings College, London and Cambridge Summer School, University of Cambridge. In 2003 he went to Egypt to copy Monumental Hieroglyphics for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
