The London Aikido dojo of London Aikikai was established by T K Chiba Shihan almost 40 years ago for the dissemination of Aikido, a traditional Japanese martial art. We practise Traditional Aikido, also known as Aikikai or Ueshiba Aikido, after the founder, O-Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. Our technical director is T K Chiba Shihan, a direct student of O-Sensei. The dojo is situated in Maida Vale, west central London, and we regularly welcome visiting aikidoka from all over the world. London Aikikai is an old style Aikido dojo, providing a traditional environment for Aikido study at the highest levels. Our instructors are highly qualified, highly experienced, have internationally recognised grades, and regularly teach at national and international level. Come and join us for advanced Aikido training or Beginners Aikido Lessons. We practise all Aikido disciplines:Aikido Bodyart, Jyo and Bokken, Iaido and Zazen meditation. Explanation of classes Beginners: Novice to 4th Kyu. Others may join in to assist beginners. Mixed: 5th Kyu and above. Others require permission from the instructor. Intermediate/Advanced: 4th Kyu and above. Weapons Basics: For beginners and intermediates in Jyo/Bokken Weapons Intermediate: For students familiar with Suburi and Kesa Jyo Basics. Others require permission from the instructor. Iaido (Iai Batto Ho): For everyone including beginners. Zazen (seated meditation): For everyone including beginners. Free Practice: For everyone including beginners. Supervised by an experienced instructor. Misogi practice is held twice a year, in January and April to commemorate the death of the Founder. The object of Misogi is purification by practising intensively for an hour. A party is held afterwards and students are requested bring their favourite food and drink.
