Khaana CatfordKhaana in Catford specialises in Northern Indian, Pakistani and Kashmiri cuisine. Situated in Catford Town Centre on the Rushey Green promenade, Khaana is much more than your average Indian restaurant. The decor is breathtaking, the food is nutritious and is cooked from fresh, and you can pop in just for a coffee, a glass of wine or an afternoon tea for two.
The wow!-factor begins from the street-with an elegant shop front and fresh green and white signage. This classy number can lead you to believe that you are in Dulwich Village or Chelsea! (well, almost). Inside, mirrored and iridescent mosaic tiles adorn the walls reflecting light around the stylish and contemporary interior. Now to the food. For real South Asian home-style food, this is the place to come. Many Asians frequent Khaana- a testament to the foods authenticity. Khaana opened at the beginning of December last year and has already established a regular client base. Customers have rated the food and décor as excellent, the service attentive and they say they are offered value for money.
There is a respectable vegetarian menu- the Rajma and Special Vegetable Korma made with saffron and cashew nuts, comes highly recommended. Tandoori dishes are cooked in the traditional way, in a Tandoori clay oven, and the Tandoori Special Sizzler is a feast for two, at only £9.75. Kids Menu items start at £2.25. The Special menu has to be tried, with a different special daily. All the meat is Halal certified. The dessert menu is impressive, and includes both Asian and Western dishes. Choose from lemon and lime cheesecake, chocolate Praline truffle and kulfi served with faluda, to name but a few. There are some fine wines and champagnes on the drinks menu- Chateau Neuf du Pape, Zafrika, Bollinger, Lalique and Mercier- as well as a very decent house wine- Blossom Hill.Last but not least, dont forget to try the mango lassi! Made with the finest Alfonso and Saffron mangos, this is a delicious drink that goes down very well. And the best thing is- everything is very, very reasonably priced. In addition, there is a discount and bonus scheme for OAPs, students, local businesses and Lewisham Council staff.
